Andrew Bird - Eyeoneye
Andrew Bird returns and he’s scaled things up with a bigger, crunchier production. The huge chorus does still collapse into a spot of his trademark whistling and more delicate musical stylings but this is a definite shift in sound for the-man-who-plays-everything and a taster that promises much for the new album.

Notorious B.I.G. - “Going Back To Cali” (Viceroy “Jet Life” Remix)
Ridiculously good remix of Notorious B.I.G.’s already brilliant ‘Going Back to Cali’ from the Life After Death Album. Viceroy injects some golden Californian sunshine into the Gangster growl of Biggie’s original, which was partly about coastal gang rivalries. Any sinister undertones have been completely removed in this version and joyfully replaced with all the elements for a summer time beach banger!

Honeydrum - Traci’s on the Phone
As far as 80’s pop pastiches go this has to be a pinnacle of perfection. The visuals blend so seamlessly with the music that you’re immediately transported back to a time gone by. It’s so convincing that i’m left wondering if that ‘telephone’ isn’t in fact a portal to a neon highway that joins the 80s to the present day, down which Pleasures Of The Sun have successfully travelled in order to peddle their new (or 25 year old) EP. A quick look at video creator, Behind the Walk-in’s, vimeo suggests these suspicions may not be unfounded.

Adanowsky - You Are The One
The video was shot while Adanowsky recorded his album in Los Angeles at the old house of Ke$ha and Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. In order to give authenticity to the Love-In, the cast and crew were put into a sexual trance thanks to a white magic breathing exercise the directors learned from Electricity Aquarian, a surviving member of Los Angeles spiritual cult The Source Family. Over forty people then channeled their erotic energy to help give birth to Adanowsky’s new alter-ego, El Amador: “The Lover.”

A Place To Bury Strangers - So Far Away
The Instagram / Hipstamatic revolution marches on and is raucously punctuated with this video for A Place to Bury Strangers track ‘So Far Away’. The band has a style that sounds somewhat like an echo from a vaguely remembered past era, very much like the effect of the astonishingly popular camera effect. It’s a nice, simple idea that could have come out rather boring but the boys from the Big Apple have come up trumps and produced something that is engaging and perfectly fitting for their raw image.

The Kills - Last Goodbye
Samantha Morton takes up directorial duties on this new video for The Kills new single, ‘The Last Goodbye’. It’s an intimate portrait of the duo that combines flashes of comedy with some genuinely touching moments. The track itself is a stylistic departure for the band which sees them move away from their distinctive gritty garage roots into softer more gentle pastures. The sonic shift is complimented brilliantly by the video which, rightly or wrongly, reminds me of Vincent Gallo’s excellent Buffalo ‘66, particularly this scene. Great pickings all round!

Danger Mouse and Daniele Lupi feat. Jack White and Norah Jones - Two Against One
Director Chris Milk and animator Anthony Francisco Sheppard have collaborated here to great effect, creating a dark yet strangely beautiful world full of tortured souls and demonic creatures. The warped animation twists and turns through it’s unsettling narrative, underpinning the ominous rumble of Danger Mouse & Daniele Lupi’s cinematic sonic rumblings and Jack White’s strained and haunting vocal. Gripping stuff.

“In Your Nature” (David Lynch remix) - Zola Jesus
What an incredible pairing this is. Zola Jesus is one of my favorite artists, one who I find similar to Janelle Monáe with the grandiosity and scope of her music, and David Lynch is, at the very least, one of the most interesting creators out there, spanning a number of different mediums. The result was something more startling for its lack of over weirdness, though Lynch manages to give it an off-kilter aura, as always. He has transformed it into a different song. It’s a much more mellow, conservative cut, one that becomes more and more likeable with each listen. A 7” featuring the original and the remix is now available through Sacred Bones, as well; hurry to get the limited edition version before I buy them all. [link]

Gotye ft. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know
Gotye is the stage name of the brilliantly real-named Australian multi-instrumentalist, Wouter De Backer. His career has been a steadily ascending ramp to success with his most recent album garnering much critical acclaim and blogosphere adulation. It’s the Twitter that’s done him the most favours on this track though, with both Lily Allen and Ashton Kutcher championing its cause and exposing it to their millions of followers.

Azealia Banks - 212 feat. Lazy Jay
One to watch for 2012 is this naughty little lady from the 212 (Manhattan for those who don’t know, me included). She may have a potty mouth but at least she swears with a smile and although she’s been popping in and out of the interweb for a little while now, this tune might just be the one that gets that cheeky smile onto every music blog under the sun.
